Getting Things Done on Crime: Mandatory Minimum Sentences and Support for Victims
May 02, 2007
Canada’s New Government is working hard to stop violent crime while giving victims greater support and a more effective voice in the federal corrections and justice system. Minister of Justice Rob Nicholson and Minister of Public Safety Stockwell Day, announced a $52 million boost to programs, services and funding for victims of crime over the next four years and the establishment of the Office of the Federal Ombudsman for Victims of Crime. The establishment of a Federal Ombudsman for Victims of Crime will help ease the burden for victims of crime in the criminal justice system and give them greater access to enhanced programs and services. While the Liberals continue to earn their soft on crime reputation, Canada’s New Government is tackling crime, protecting our streets and communities and building a stronger, safer, better Canada
